Spartans Shine Across Multiple Events at Indoor Pre-Nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- The Spartans produced a full slate of top-10 performances at Indoor Pre Nationals, held Feb. 13–14 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
Senior Essence Shaw opened the meet with a third-place finish in the pentathlon, scoring 3,145 points. In the sprints, senior Brandy Hall placed seventh in the 60-meter prelims with a 7.59 before running 7.52 to earn third in the finals. Junior Asiah Wike finished eighth in the 60-meter prelims at 7.64 and followed with a sixth-place showing in the finals at 7.60.
 
Senior Brooklyn Robinson turned in two top-10 efforts in the 60-meter hurdles, placing second in the prelims with an 8.32 and matching the finish in the finals with a time of 8.24.
 
In the middle distances, freshman Moamiky Kenneh recorded an eighth-place finish in the 800 meters at 2:17.09, while junior Dannielle King added a 10th-place run in 2:23.55. Junior Sonia Koech earned second in the mile with a time of 5:17.63, and junior Abigael Chebet followed in fifth at 5:20.10. Freshman Amira Dailey rounded out the mile results with a 10th-place finish in 5:34.41.
 
Field events also delivered several top-10 marks. Freshman Yowome Ayim placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.68 meters and finished eighth in the triple jump at 11.65 meters. Freshman Emma Svetiev cleared 3.18 meters to take second in the pole vault, while junior Lexa Hunter matched the height to place fourth. Sophomore Amanti Mayes earned sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.66 meters and added a 10th-place finish in the weight throw at 13.14 meters.
 
The relays capped the meet with strong performances, as the distance medley relay team consisting of Koech, King, Dailey, and Chebet placed second in 12:50.23, and the 4x400 relay team consisting of Jada Arrington, Nevaeh Lewis, King, and Kenneh finished fourth with a time of 3:53.80.
 
The Spartans return to action at the MEAC Indoor Championships, set for Feb. 22–23 in Virginia Beach, Va., at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
