ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State newcomer Tinashe Bure finished fourth in the individual competition Saturday (Oct. 11) at the Sand Shark Invitational hosted by USC Beaufort, to help the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish (144 pts.) in a 13-team field. Bure, a junior and transfer from Monroe Community College in New York, completed the 8K course with a time of 25:13.7 in his first competition as a Bulldog.
In the women's field 5K, sophomore Nia Singleton, like Bure a transfer, finished 12
th for Coach Donald Cooper's squad in a time of 19:00.0, a lifetime best, on a very muddy and wet course. She was the only runner on the SC State women's team to finish the course, according to Cooper as a mix-up occurred on the route.
Bure was followed in the men's field by teammates Isaiah Campbell (27:00.3), Jayln Price (27:13.7), Macarie N'twa (27:23.4), Brandon McMillen (28:01.0), Kemal Forbes (28:13.0), and Kameron Sutton (28:27.3). Graduate student Andrew Latimer, who has been the SC State leader all season, was rested for Saturday's meet.
Southeastern (61pts.) won the men's competition, while Georgia Southern (21 pts) captured the women's title.
SC State resumes its schedule Oct. 18 at the USC Upstate Invite, before participating in the MEAC Championships Nov. 1 at Cary, NC.
