UNIONVILLE, Pa. – Humed Nura won the individual title at West Chester's Golden Ram Invitational in 15:51.9, to lead the Coppin State cross country team on Saturday morning. This is the second time that Nura took the top spot after also winning the UMES Soaring Hawks Invite on September 20.
A junior from Baltimore, Nura led the Eagles to a second place team finish, defeating the next closest competitor in the 5K by 18 seconds.
Asa Francis also finished in the top ten, clocking in at 16:36.3 to finish eighth overall.
Etiam Torgbenu and
Whisper Shikwa came in at 17:27.3 and 17:46.8, respectively, while
Elijah Hicks rounded out CSU's top five in 18:16.8.
Xavier Grant made his collegiate debut and finished in 18:48.5.
On the women's side, the Eagles finished fifth of seven schools with
Halutie Hor, Tracey Riley and
Gifty Oku running as a pack in times of 24:25, 24:34.6 and 24:34.7, accordingly.
Kyah La Fortune crossed the finish in 25:48.3 while
Karima Davenport-White came in at 26:55.7.
The Eagles are set to run at Howard's Bison Invitational on Saturday, October 18, in their final tune up before the MEAC Championship in Cary, N.C., on November 1.
