GREENSVILLE, N.C. --- The Norfolk State men's cross-country team returned to action, following a month hiatus to place second at the Pirate XC Invitational, hosted by East Carolina on Friday morning.
The Spartans scored 54 points, with finishes of 1-3-9-20-21-48. High Point won the event with 35 points.
Ian Kimutai led the Spartans, winning the race with a time of 24:06.29, while Mathew Kipkoech also earned a top five finish, taking fifth (24:15.67). Lewis Too took 13th, clocking a time of 24:51.33.
Sophomore Basil Koech finished the 8k race in 25:30.74 to place 26th, while Jemmel Green followed closely behind, taking 28th with a time of 25:32.25. Nimporembere Drogba closed out the Spartan finishers with a time of 27:33.20.
Norfolk State will return to action on Oct. 17 at the Panorama Farms Invite, hosted by the University of Virginia.
