Norfolk, Va. — The No. 1-seeded Howard Bison softball defeated the Morgan State Bears softball, 11-2, in six innings Wednesday afternoon at TowneBank Field during MEAC Tournament play.
Howard scored 11 unanswered runs after falling behind early, erasing a 2-0 deficit entering the bottom of the third. The Bison broke the game open with a five-run third inning, fueled by timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, and scored in four consecutive innings to take control.
Makyla Taylor led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the sixth to end the game. Aniyah Whipper finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Maryn Jordan drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and an RBI double. Howard finished with 12 hits overall.
In the circle, Aiko Conaway earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits over 5.1 innings. Jaidyn Devore worked the final outs in relief, helping hold Morgan State scoreless over the last three innings.
For Morgan State, Olivia Garner homered in the third inning, and Denver Oberm added an RBI double in the second. Nia Lewis recorded the Bears’ only other hit as Morgan State finished with three total hits.
