NORFOLK, Va., Apr. 14, 2026 – North Carolina Central senior Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was named the MEAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Norfolk State freshman Yana Klimchuk earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Hidalgo Vega (Sr., Madrid, Spain.) went undefeated in No. 1 singles and doubles play during a 2–1 week for the Eagles, earning straight-set wins over South Carolina State’s Katerina Marsalkova (6–1, 6–3) and Shaw’s Tanaka Garikai. She closed the regular season unbeaten in MEAC singles (6–0) and finished 5–0 in conference doubles play.
Klimchuk (Fr., Minsk, Belarus.) posted a perfect 2–0 in both singles and doubles play on the week, delivering straight-set singles wins over George Washington’s Alexandra Lindqvist (6–1, 6–1) and N.C. Central’s Mariana Zottoli (6–1, 6–4). She also added two doubles victories, defeating George Washington’s Manu/Lindqvist (6–3) and N.C. Central’s Zottoli/San Miguel (6–2).

- Sara Barbaric (NCCU) recorded singles victories over Norfolk State and Shaw and added a doubles victory (6–3) against South Carolina State.
- Franchesca Brown (HOW) went 1–0 in singles play with a 6–3, 6–3 win over Coppin State’s Sirena Singh and added a perfect 2–0 doubles mark alongside Lauren Oliver, earning wins over Coppin State and Navy.
- Lucia Casas Blas (DSU) delivered straight-set singles win over Morgan State’s Julia Jeffrey, 6–0, 6–2.
- Regina Urbiola (NSU) posted a perfect 2–0 singles week, including a three-set win over George Washington’s Madison Lee (6–2, 2–6, 6–4) and a straight-set victory over N.C. Central’s Patricia Palencia (6–1, 6–3).
- Hannah Watkins (DSU) went 1–1 in singles play, highlighted by a 6–4, 6–4 win at No. 1 singles over Coppin State’s Alexandra Lindqvist.
