CARY, N.C., April 24, 2026 – Day two of the 2026 MEAC Women’s Tennis Championship concluded with the top two seeds moving on, as the Morgan State Bears and the Norfolk State Spartans punched their tickets to the championship match. The title showdown is set for 12 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Match 1: No. 1 Morgan State def. No. 4 North Carolina Central l 4-1
The North Carolina Central Eagles battled top-seeded Morgan State in the semifinal round of the MEAC Women’s Tennis Championship but ultimately fell as Morgan State advanced to the title match.
In doubles play, Morgan State set the tone early. At No. 1, Lauryn Hall and Marta Serra Carles defeated Patricia Palencia and Sara Barbaric, 6-4. The Bears secured the doubles point at No. 2, where Michaela Stephens and Julia Jeffrey topped Mariana Zottoli and Valeria San Miguel Soria, 6-4.
The Eagles responded at No. 3 doubles, as Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Valentina de Aquino delivered a strong performance to earn a 6-3 win and provide momentum heading into singles play.
However, Morgan State proved too strong in singles competition, winning courts three through five to clinch the match and secure their spot in the championship.
Match 2: No. 2 Norfolk State def. No. 6 South Carolina State l 4-1
The Norfolk State Spartans established control early, securing the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions en route to a 4-1 win over the No. 6 South Carolina State Bulldogs.
Yuliya Yurkova and Julia Daroszewska earned a 6–2 victory over Ashikha Amalnathan and Cassandra Lecoanet at the No. 1 position, while the Spartans clinched the doubles point at No. 3 behind Regina Urbiola and Yana Klimchuk.
Norfolk State maintained its momentum in singles action, winning three courts to secure the 4–1 team victory.
South Carolina State recorded a point at No. 1 singles to narrow the margin to 3–1. However, Yana Klimchuk sealed the match at No. 4 singles, defeating Lecoanet 6–4, 6–1 to send the Spartans to the championship round.
No.2 Norfolk State will face top-seeded Morgan State in the MEAC Championship final on Saturday, April 25, at 9:00 a.m. ET, live on ESPN+.
