MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 28, 2026 – Howard sophomore Tiffany Mugubi was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while North Carolina Central senior Tia Lucas earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. 

Mugubi (So., Houston, Texas) finished fourth in the 800 meters at the 2026 Penn 10 Elite, setting a MEAC-best and school-record time of 2:07.44, which currently ranks 28th nationally. 

Lucas (Sr., James Island, S.C.) won the high jump at the Liberty Open for the second straight meet, clearing 1.74 meters, which ranks first in the MEAC. 

Other Top Performers 

  • Lynzi Evans (UMES) earned fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles at the VMI Invitational, posting a personal-best 8.88 in the preliminaries and 8.92 in the finals. 
  • Faithlyn Irving (UMES) finished second in the long jump at the VMI Invitational with a leap of 5.63 meters. 
  • Merasia Johnson (DSU) placed sixth in the 800-meter run at the Liberty Open clocking in at 2:17.20 
  • Anyra Knight (MSU) posted a personal-best 8.72 in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries and went on to finish runner-up with 8.77 at the VMI Invitational. 
  • Jayla-Shae Wright (MSU) earned fourth place in the high jump at the VMI Invitational after clearing a personal-best 1.55 meters. 
  • Melanne Sutton (NCCU) captured third place in the 60 meters at the Liberty Open with a season-best 7.44. 
  • Sanaa Virgil (DSU) placed second at the Liberty Open while setting a Delaware State indoor school record with a mark of 12.35 meters.
