MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Track & Field Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 21, 2026-- Howard junior Yahnari Lyons was selected as Women's Track Athlete of the Week while Bison teammate Temi Banwo earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.     

Lyons (Jr., Hampton, Ga) won the 200-meter dash at the HBCU Showcase with a MEAC-best time of 23.68, ranking 17th nationally. 
 
Banwo (Sr., Allen, Texas) claimed gold in the weight throw at the HBCU Showcase with a MEAC-best mark of 17.82 meters. 

Other Top Performers 

  • Janiya Glass (MSU) won gold in the 60 meters with a personal-best 7.83 while also posting a personal-best 58.97 time in the 400 meters at the HBCU Showcase. 
  • Faithlyn Irving (UMES) took first place in the triple jump at the HBCU Challenge with a MEAC-best mark of 12.59 meters. 
  • Benidicta Kwartemaa (CSU) finished fifth in the 200-meter dash at the HBCU Showcase with a time of 24.64. 
  • Tia Lucas (NCCU) won the high jump at the Dick Taylor Challenge with a leap of 1.71 meters. 
  • Brooklyn Robinson (NSU) secured gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31, took third in the college division hurdles at 7.54, and finished sixth in the 200 meters in 25.06 at the HBCU Showcase. 
  • Keira Stewart (MSU) captured first place in the long jump at the HBCU Showcase with a MEAC-best leap of 6.02 meters. 
  • Melanne Sutton (NCCU) won the 60 meters in 7.45 and placed fifth in the 300 meters with a time of 40.91 at the Dick Taylor Challenge. 
  • Emma Svetiev (NSU) took first place in the pole vault at the HBCU Showcase, clearing 3.20 meters.
