NEW YORK (January 17, 2026) – Howard University women's track & field squad displayed a dominant performance in New York Saturday, winning the 2026 HBCU Showcase by 50 points.
 
Collectively, the Bison scored 176 points with eight victories.
 
Senior Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.), sophomores Cenaiya Billups (Denver) and Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and rookie Carrie Vannoy (Oak Park, Mich.) capped off the day with a win in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:44.76.
 
Individually, Turner and Billups earned gold (54.64) and silver (54.84) in the 200-meter dash, respectively. Sophomore Brooke Cochran (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Sadie Sanders (Santa Rosa, Calif.) also competed in the race, finishing fifth (57.27) and eighth (57.53), respectively.
 
Junior Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) won a pair of races: 60-meter dash (7.44) and 200-meter (23.68).
 
Second-year Bison Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) took first place in the 800-meter run (2:10.89). Fellow classmate Kendall Robinson (Bowie, Md.) also ran, earning seventh place (2:20.80).
 
Freshman standout Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) and sophomore Ester Kirk (Morristown, N.J.) placed first (10:39.75) and second (10:42.03), respectively, in the 3K run. The New York product also won the mile run with a 5:01.77 time.
 
In the field, senior Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) won the weight throw after tossing over 58 feet (17.82 meters). Sophomore Kinnidi Hampton also took part in the event, earning fifth overall (15.14 meters).
 
Hampton finished runner-up behind the Bison with 126 points. Norfolk State and Prairie View A&M tied for third place, producing 49 points apiece.
 
On Jan. 23-24, HU goes back to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the Penn 10 Elite, hosted by the Quakers.
