Five Games on Tap for MEAC Football in Week 3

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19 with five games on the Week 3 schedule, including two rivalry matchups.

MEAC Football Notes
Week 3 Overview
Two rivalry games highlight the Week 3 schedule, with Norfolk State hosting Hampton in the 61st Battle of the Bay and Morgan State visiting Towson for the Battle for Greater Baltimore.
 
Norfolk State leads the series 30-29-1, but Hampton has won the last two meetings. Towson leads Morgan State 24-6 all-time and has won eight straight.

Delaware State will play its first FBS opponent of the season at South Florida, while South Carolina State heads to Furman for a matchup between two nationally ranked teams. North Carolina Central also hits the road, taking on Gardner-Webb.

Fast Start for the Bulldogs
South Carolina State currently ranks first nationally in scoring offense (61.3 PPG) and scoring defense (4.3 PPG). On the ground, sophomore running back Mason Pickett-Hicks ranks third nationally with 425 total rushing yards this season.

Cameron Edge in the Pocket
Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge ranks seventh nationally in passing efficiency (175.0) and 13th nationally in completion percentage (67.9).
 
MEAC in the Rankings
Following a dominant 66-0 win over Virginia State on Saturday, South Carolina State was the unanimous No. 1 selection in the latest Black College Football Division I FCS poll, receiving all 26 first-place votes and 520 total points.
 
Delaware State (No. 5), North Carolina Central (No. 7) and Morgan State (No. 10) also landed in the Top 10, while Howard received votes.

Around the League
  • South Carolina State Remains Dominant
    • South Carolina State remained unbeaten with a dominant 66-0 victory over Virginia State Saturday at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 and led 31-0 at halftime before adding three touchdowns in the third quarter and two more in the fourth. Mason Pickett-Hicks rushed for 112 yards on 10 carries and added two receptions for 31 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown catch from Ronnie Robinson.
    • South Carolina State finished with 480 total yards, including 282 on the ground, while Keely Watson completed 14-of-19 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs’ defense forced five turnovers, including two interceptions and three fumble recoveries, while holding Virginia State to 114 total yards. Marquis Lane-Owens added a fumble-return touchdown, and the Bulldogs also returned an interception for a score in the fourth quarter.
  • Aggie-Eagle Classic
    • North Carolina Central held off North Carolina A&T State 30-22 on Saturday to claim the 98th annual Aggie-Eagle Classic at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium. Plez Lawrence turned in a career performance, rushing for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. His 73-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Eagles a 23-7 lead, while his third score pushed the advantage to 30-14 in the third quarter.
    • The Aggies rallied late to pull within 30-22, but North Carolina Central’s defense came up with a pair of big plays in the final seconds, including Jakarri Martin II’s game-sealing interception. Joshua Truesdale led the Eagles with 10 tackles and an interception.
  • Delaware State Gets Back on Track
    • Delaware State used a dominant ground game to take down Bowie State 21-6 on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The Hornets rushed for 224 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per carry, and scored all three of their touchdowns on the ground.
    • Shaun Boykins Jr. led the way with 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Delaware State’s defense held the Bulldogs to 287 total yards. Malcolm Jefferies recorded eight tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble, while Wayne Favors III added an interception.
  • Morgan State’s Offensive Outburst
    • Morgan State cruised past Virginia-Lynchburg 55-0 Saturday at Hughes Stadium, improving to 2-1 on the season. The Bears piled up 522 yards of total offense, including 387 through the air, and scored eight touchdowns. Cameron Edge led the way through the air, completing 17-of-19 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.
    • Justin Perry caught six passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while Malachi Bryant, Alex Simmons and Maxim Copeland also found the end zone through the air. Jordan Barnett added a rushing touchdown, and Darius Searles returned an interception 28 yards for another score. Morgan’s defense recorded five sacks and two interceptions while holding Virginia-Lynchburg scoreless.
