Coppin State’s Atilano Highlights MEAC Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its weekly volleyball honors Monday, with Coppin State’s Cherisse Atilano and Eva Rovello earning Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively.

Delaware State’s Duura Kpea earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week, while Hannah Sanders was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Player of the Week: Cherisse Atilano | Coppin State | So. | OH | Guaynabo, Puerto Rico
Cherisse Atilano recorded three double-doubles while helping the Eagles go 3-0 at the Zips Invitational. She had 14 kills, 13 digs and an ace against Valparaiso, followed by 13 kills and 10 digs in a win over Akron. Atilano closed the weekend with 11 kills, 14 digs and two aces at Cleveland State.
 
Rookie of the Week: Duura Kpea | Delaware State | Fr. | MB/RS | Melissa, Texas
Duura Kpea helped the Hornets go 3-1 during the week, hitting .348 on 46 swings with just six errors. She also recorded 13 blocks, eight digs and three aces.
 
Setter of the Week: Eva Rovello | Coppin State | Jr. | S | Vigneux de Bretagne, France
Eva Rovello helped the Eagles go 3-0 at the Zips Invitational, recording two double-doubles. She had 35 assists and 10 digs, along with two kills, four aces and three blocks against Valparaiso, then added 37 assists, 10 digs, four kills and a team-high five blocks in the win at Akron. Rovello closed the weekend with 41 assists, nine digs, three kills, three aces and four blocks in a win against Cleveland State, where Coppin State hit a school-record .383 in a four-set match, breaking a record set in 1992.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Hannah Sanders | DSU | Sr. | MB | Lawrenceville, Ga.
Hannah Sanders hit .519 on 52 attempts with just five errors during the week. She added 13 blocks and six digs and is currently tied for fourth in the NCAA in total blocks.
 
Other Top Performers
  • Jada Williams (Morgan State) – Williams totaled 41 kills, 31 digs, two aces and five blocks during the week, averaging 3.7 kills and 2.8 digs per set. She recorded her first double-double of the season against George Washington with a career-high 22 kills and 14 digs, along with two blocks and an ace. Williams also had 11 kills and nine digs against Georgetown and moved into fourth place on Morgan’s all-time blocks list with 314 after adding three blocks against George Mason.
  • Addison Buckner (Howard) – Buckner recorded seven kills and 16 digs in a win over Robert Morris before adding two kills and six digs against Arkansas.
  • Kayden Cupid (Coppin State) – Cupid helped the Eagles go 3-0 at the Zips Invitational, hitting .500 while totaling 14 kills and 13 blocks. She had five kills and seven blocks in the win over Valparaiso, four kills and three blocks against Akron, and five kills and three blocks in just two sets at Cleveland State.
