Mitchell, Kpea Lead Delaware State in MEAC Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its weekly volleyball honors Monday, with Delaware State’s Aaliyah Mitchell earning Player of the Week accolades and teammate Duura Kpea claiming Rookie of the Week honors.

Morgan State’s Isabelle Brown was named Setter of the Week, while Coppin State’s Coco Figueroa earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition following standout performances across the league.

Player of the Week: Aliyah Mitchell | Delaware State | Sr. | OH | Monroe, N.C.
Aaliyah Mitchell helped Delaware State put together a 3-1 week, including wins over Saint Peter’s, NJIT and Quinnipiac. She totaled 49 kills, 32 digs, three aces and six blocks throughout the week. Her most notable performance came in the win over Quinnipiac where she logged 18 kills, while hitting .381.
 
Rookie of the Week: Duura Kpea | Delaware State | Fr. | MB/RS | Melissa, Texas
Duura Kpea played a key role in Delaware State’s successful week, helping the Hornets post a 3-1 record across four matches. Kpea provided a strong presence on both sides of the net, finishing the week with 24 kills and 10 blocks.
 
Setter of the Week: Isabelle Brown | Morgan State | So. | S | Avon, Ind.
Isabelle Brown averaged 6.8 assists and 1.9 digs per set while totaling 82 assists, 10 kills, six aces, 23 digs and a solo block. She posted a match-high 31 assists, five kills, two aces and a block in Morgan State’s win over Saint Peter’s. Brown followed with a double-double of 30 assists and 12 digs against Loyola Maryland before closing the week with a match-high 21 assists, six digs, two aces and a kill against Towson.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Coco Figueroa | CSU | Sr. | L/DS | Bayamon, Puerto Rico
Coco Figueroa was named to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 5.14 digs per set with 12 assists and five aces across three matches. She recorded a match-high 21 digs against Navy before posting a season-high 29 digs to go with five assists against Penn. Figueroa also led the team with 22 digs against Stony Brook and recorded two aces against both Navy and Stony Brook.
 
Other Top Performers
  • Gabrielle Gilbert (Norfolk State) – Totaled 27 kills across eight sets for Norfolk State, averaging 3.38 kills per set. She posted a season-high 20 kills in the Spartans’ five-set Battle of the Bay win over Hampton, adding five aces and eight digs for 25.0 points. Gilbert finished the week with 35.0 points, 13 digs, five aces and two blocks.
  • Nia Curry (Coppin State) – Totaled 32 kills across three matches, including a season-high 17 kills on .333 hitting against Penn, along with seven digs. She added eight kills and a season-high 14 digs against Stony Brook after opening the week with seven kills, two aces and five digs at Navy.
  • Addison Buckner (Howard) – Totaled 34 kills across three matches at the Cornell Invitational, including 16 kills and eight digs against UAlbany, highlighted by a solo block. She added 11 kills, four digs and an ace against Syracuse and seven kills, five digs and a block assist against Cornell.
  • Eva Rovello (Coppin State) – Averaged 46.3 assists and 9.7 digs per match across three matches, recording double-doubles against Navy (49 assists, 13 digs) and Stony Brook (44 assists, 11 digs). She added 11 kills and eight blocks on the week, including a season-high four blocks against Penn.
