Sims Jr First Place Finish Rallies Hornets at Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, NJ–– The Delaware State Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field program closed out its final regular-season meet at the elite Princeton Larry Ellis Invite ahead of the 2026 Outdoor MEAC Championships in Norfolk, Virginia.


Senior Alonzo Sims. JR opened the meet for the Hornets with a first place finish in the men's 400m hurdles (51.85). Sims. Jr time is ranked # 1 in the MEAC and sit #4 in DSU history. 


Marian Drazan secured 17th place in the 1500m with a time of 3:49.29, becoming the first DSU 1500m runner to ever break the 3:50 barrier. Lekan Sotonwa followed closely with a fourth place finish ( 3:51.90), earning the No. 2 all-time mark in DSU history and setting a new DSU freshman record. While Ian Cain earned fifth place (3:52.40) on the leader board to secure #3 DSU All-time. 


 Cain continued his strong performance in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 1:49.92  to secure the No. 2 all-time mark in DSU history. Dashawn Keller also added a 12th place finish (1:54.59 ) in the race. 


The Hornets also saw success in relay competition, as the 4x400m team of Keith Jenerette, Alonzo Sims Jr., Ian Cain, and Sage Phillips claimed first place with a time of 3:13.04.


In the field events, Ja'Mari Manson closed out the Hornets regular season with a mark of 2.06 meters in the men's high jump.
