COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Solomon Hammond won the 100m dash and led the 4x100m Relay to victory as Coppin State's track & field teams competed at the Kehoe Twilight Meet, hosted by the University of Maryland on a windy Friday night.
 
Hammond battled a strong headwind to a 10.65 to win the 100m, just ahead of teammate Cole Schlotterbeck in 10.82.  Schlotterbeck also took third in the 200m in 21.49 while Timothy Frederick doubled up in the 200m (21.89) and 400m (47.88) where he finished third overall.
 
Hammond and Schlotterbeck made up half of the gold medal winning 4x100m that clocked a season-best 39.66.  With Chris Adekoya and Iloba Godspower running the other legs, the Eagles' time is the fourth-best in CSU history and pencils them into NCAA Regionals later this month.
 
The 4x400m also ran a 'B' team which took first in 3:24.09.
 
Also medaling on the night was freshman Sean Williams in the high jump with a leap of 2.01m (6' 7") which was good for third overall.
 
Asa Francis posted a PR in the 800m, clocking a 1:50.05 to lead a quartet of Eagles.  Etiam Torgbenu followed in 1:52.48, followed by Elijah Hicks in 1:57.93 and Rashawn Harris in 2:02.19.  Humed Nura also covered the 1,500m in 4:04.97.
 
Elijah Williams doubled in the long jump where he took fourth in 7.19m (23' 7.25") and the 110m hurdles (15.84).
 
In the horizontal jumps, Alexander Dobson-Honablue finished sixth in the triple jump (14.27m / 46' 10"), just ahead of Keyon Jackson in 13.56m (44' 6"). Mandel Edelin also traveled 6.32m (20' 9") in the long jump.
 
On the women's side, the 4x100m Relay of Gifty Oku, Benedicta Kwartemaa, Kyah La Fortune and Danielle Wooten took second overall in 45.80.  Oku also led a quartet of Eagles in the 400m in 56.14, edging out Wooten (56.23), Kwartemaa (58.85) and Chase Cineas (1:01.13).
 
Zeana Bain and Indya Norman had season-best performances in the long jump with leaps of 5.46m (17' 11") and 5.27m (17' 3.5"), respectively.  In the throws, Blair Griffth tossed the shot put 10.06m (33' 0.25") while Raniya Perry's throw traveled 9.77m (32' 0.75").
 
In the 100m hurdles, Ariell Thomas clocked a 15.84 while Karima Davenport-White finished in 15.91.
 
The Eagles will compete next at the MEAC Championships on May 14-16 in Norfolk, Va.
