Hornets Shine at Fast Track Open as Delaware State Men’s Track & Field Stuns the Field

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –– The Delaware State Hornets men's track & field program continued its indoor season at the Fast Track Open Invitational, building momentum ahead of the MEAC Indoor Championships set for February 22 in Norfolk, Va.

The Hornets turned in a strong showing on the track, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Keith Jenerette, Alonzo Sims Jr., Tori Willis Jr., and Sage Phillips clocked a winning time of 3:17.44. Sims also added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 49.13.

In the field events, MEAC Field Athlete of the Week Christopher Johnson continued his dominant season by setting another Delaware State record in the weight throw. Johnson recorded marks of 17.05 meters and 16.25 meters, further cementing his place in program history. Freshmen Derrick Sirmons and Babadara Olowe also impressed, finishing inside the top 10 in the shot put.

The record-breaking performances continued as Ja'Mari Manson cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump, earning third place and setting a new DSU program record.

Delaware State closed out the meet with a strong distance showing, as Lekan Sotonwa, Donovan Dixon, Ian Cain, and Marian Drazan combined to capture first place in the Distance Medley Relay.

Sims capped off the invitational with another podium finish, placing third in the 200-meter dash.
