Hornets Finish 1-1 on Day One of Elon Phoneix Invitational

GAME 1 VS. Manhattan

ELON, N.C. -- 
Mianna Lopez Del Haro collected three hits, but the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Manhattan Jaspers 3-1 Saturday.

Kristin White (0-1) got the ball to start for Delaware State (0-2) and took the loss. White went six shutout innings on four hits, allowing five walks and striking out five.

In addition to her three hits, Mianna Lopez Del Haro had a double to lead the Hornets. Karly Cain put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Yeannelly Sosa came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Manhattan scored three times over the remaining six innings to grab the 3-1 win.

GAME 2 VS. Mount St. Mary's
 

ELON, N.C. --Allyson Fonollosa and Kaylanie Rodriguez combined to toss a shutout on Saturday as the Delaware State Hornets blanked the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 5-0.

Allyson Fonollosa (1-0) started and picked up the win for Delaware State (1-2), going four shutout innings while giving up two hits, walking two, and striking out three. Kaylanie Rodriguez was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out four.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by Savannah Siffert, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Nevaeh Terrell furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk. Mi'Shon King also chipped in for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Delaware State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Hornets then tacked on runs in the fourth inning when they scored three times.
