Janssen Earns All-Tourney Honors at NFCA Leadoff Classic

CLEARWATER, Fla. - North Carolina Central pitcher Madeline Janssen was placed on the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament softball team after a strong showing in the circle this past weekend.

Making her debut in an Eagles' uniform, Janssen delivered solid outings against five quality opponents including Power Four teams Pittsburgh and Rutgers. Despite a 0-2 record in three starts, she earned recognition from the committee and gained a spot on the 18-player squad.

Led by her pitching, the Eagles consistently competed throughout the tournament. Her best highlights as a starter were against Pittsburgh and Eastern Kentucky.

Janssen allowed one earned run and fanned four batters in 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh in the season opener. She scattered six hits and was credited with one earned run and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings against Eastern Kentucky. The score was tied 1-1 in the fifth inning before she left the game.

As a reliever, Janssen struck out three and gave up one earned run in two innings versus Rutgers. Overall, Janssen posted a 3.50 earned run average with 12 strikeouts in 14 innings.
