NEW YORK (January 17, 2026) – Howard University men's track & field team finished third overall in the annual HBCU Showcase, scoring 70 points.
Second-year Bison
William Shepherd (Plano, Texas) led the way, winning the mile run with a 4:14.26 mark. Rookies
Noah Douglas (Boston) and
Ashton Thomas (Greensboro, N.C.) also took part in the race, placing sixth (4:28.24) and seventh (4:28.35), respectively.
Sophomore
Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior
Jorim Bangue (Yaounde, Cameroon) competed in the 60-meter hurdles, taking first (7.87) and fourth (8.03), respectively. The DMV native also participated in high jump, earning silver (2.04 meters).
In the field, fifth-year Bison
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) took second overall in the triple jump after leaping nearly 49 feet (14.90 meters).
Sophomores
Solomon Young (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Tarike Lavine (Bridgetown, Barbados) finished fourth (14.99 meters) and fifth (14.48 meters), respectively, in the weight throw. The Tar Heel product also competed in the shot put, securing bronze (14.57 meters).
Norfolk State won the 2026 HBCU Showcase with 119.5 points. Virginia Union finished runner-up (77.5 points).
On Jan. 23-24, HU goes back to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the Penn 10 Elite, hosted by the Quakers.
