NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 24, 2025 — Maryland Eastern Shore's Siyabonga Mbatha was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Fellow Hawk Rebecca Jepngetich was named Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, giving the Eagles a sweep of this week's awards. 

Mbatha (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) opened his season with a runner-up finish at the Soaring Hawks Invitational, posting a time of 28:05.83 in the men's 8K to help lead the Maryland Eastern Shore team to gold with 36 points. 

Jepngetich (So., Eldoret, Kenya) captured the individual title at the Soaring Hawks Invitational, running a season-best 18:49.25 in the women's 5K to lead Maryland Eastern Shore to a first-place team finish with 23 points.
