Coppin State Clinches MEAC Regular Season Title to Highlight Friday Night Volleyball Action

Eagles secure top seed for 2025 MEAC Championship with 3-1 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State secured the 2025 MEAC Regular Season Championship with a 3-1 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday evening inside PEC Arena. With the win, the Eagles improve to 18-11 overall and 11-1 in MEAC play, clinching the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2025 MEAC Volleyball Championship. Coppin State last captured the conference title in 2023. 

The Eagles' offense was led by Cherisse Atilano, who delivered a standout performance with 13 kills on a .393 hitting percentage while adding three service aces and 16 digs. TaKenya Stafford added 13 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, and Ayanna Pharoah tallied 10 kills with three blocks. 


Norfolk State def. South Carolina State 3-0 BOX SCORE | RECAP 

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State defeated South Carolina State in a 3-0 sweep on Friday evening at Gill Gymnasium. 

Gabrielle Gilbert powered the Spartans' offense with 15 kills while hitting .353, while Reagan Chisholm added 10 kills on an efficient .769 hitting percentage. Ava Berry and Isis Castille chipped in six kills apiece to round out the balanced attack. 


Howard def. North Carolina Central 3-0 BOX SCORE | RECAP 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Howard University rolled past North Carolina Central in straight sets on Friday evening inside Burr Gymnasium, earning a 3-0 sweep over the Eagles. 

Rya McKinnon paced the Bison attack with 14 kills on a .464 hitting percentage, while Alexys James added nine kills and three service aces. Kristen Dear was efficient with six kills on .556 hitting, and Kennedi Wright contributed seven kills to round out the evening.
