MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina Central guard Gage Lattimore has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week presented by Wells Fargo. NCCU’s Khouri Carvey earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Norfolk State’s My’kel Jenkins was selected as Rookie of the Week.

Lattimore (G, So., Greensboro, N.C.) scored in double figures in all three contests last week, posting 20 points against N.C. State, 25 at Virginia, and 13 versus Appalachian State. He averaged 19.3 points per game, going a perfect 19-of-19 from the free-throw line. Lattimore shot 53 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-17) and added seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and one block, while logging 40 minutes in two of the three matchups.

Carvey (F, Sr., Wilson, N.C.) anchored the Eagles defensively, averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, including a double-double of 16 points and 11 boards against Virginia. He also tallied two steals and two blocks during the opening week. Offensively, Carvey contributed 14.7 points per game along with eight assists.

Jenkins (G, r-Fr., Tarboro, N.C.) delivered an impressive debut week for the Spartans, scoring 15 points in back-to-back games against Washington Adventist and William & Mary. He totaled 39 points across three games, adding 16 rebounds, five steals, three blocks, and three assists while averaging 21.0 minutes per contest. Jenkins shot 52 percent from the floor (14-of-27) and 46 percent from three-point range.

  • Rob Lawson (Morgan State) averaged 20.0 points and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, adding nine assists, seven rebounds, and two steals as the Bears finished the week 1-1.
  • Josph Locandro (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded 32 points (10.7 ppg), 13 rebounds, four steals, two blocks, and one assist in three games for the Hawks.
  • Anthony McComb III (Norfolk State) averaged 18.7 points while shooting 53 percent from the field (18-of-34), adding 13 rebounds, six steals, three assists, and two blocks in the Spartans’ 2-1 opening week.
  • Taj Thweatt (Coppin State) posted 23 points, 18 rebounds, four steals, three assists, and one block across three games for the Eagles.
