SMYRNA, Del., November 1, 2014 – Maryland Eastern Shore captured the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country championship title on Saturday morning at the Delaware State University Outreach and Research Center.
UMES scored 45 points to win its fifth overall MEAC title, the first since 2007. The Hawks averaged a time of 27:33.36 on the 8K course.
“All year long, we’ve been getting up at 6 a.m. to get our workouts and runs in has paid off,” Maryland Eastern Shore head coach Ernest Barrett said. “Khali Rmidi Kinini won it for us and our number six man stepped up big for us today. It wasn’t the greatest weather, but it was cross country weather and we are excited to get the win.”
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Khali Rmidi Kinini was named Outstanding Performer, finishing first with a time of 25:53.60.
Coach Barrett, also of Maryland Eastern Shore, was named Outstanding Coach.
Second-place honors went to North Carolina A&T with 67 total points. Coppin State (75), Howard (91) and Hampton (144) competed the top-five finishes.
