NORFOLK, Va. - The North Carolina A&T State University women’s bowling team begins their hunt for a national title this weekend in the National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Rochester Regional. The Aggies will face Louisiana Tech in the first round of the tournament on Friday, April 4, at 9 a.m.
North Carolina A&T State will appear in their fifth consecutive National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Tournament this weekend and seventh in program history. The Aggies received the automatic bid to this year’s tournament after winning the 2025 MEAC Bowling Championship defeating the University of Alabama-Birmingham 4-1.
N.C. A&T is led by senior Maya Avilez who racked up the trio of top MEAC awards this season. Avilez garnered the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year honor, was selected as the regular season Player of the Year as well as the MEAC Bowling Tournament Outstanding Bowler.
Joining Avilez as a leader of the Aggies is MEAC Rookie of the Year, Victorya White. White is the third Rookie of the Year honoree for North Carolina A&T with the last award going to Ana Olaya in 2018. She ranked first in the MEAC in individual scoring average with a 20.68 average per frame and first in baker format scoring per frame at 20.49 throughout the regular season.
At the helm is MEAC Coach of the Year Kim Terrell-Kearney, who garnered the honor for the fifth consecutive season. Terrell-Kearney led the Aggies to their fifth straight MEAC regular-season title. The Aggies were the top-seed in the MEAC Bowling Championship Tournament with an 80-36 overall record and a 12-2 conference mark. N.C. A&T is ranked eighth-ranked team in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.
The Aggies will face a familiar foe in Louisiana Tech, a team that is ranked 11th in the NTCA poll. N.C. A&T opened the 2024-25 season against La. Tech falling 1050-903. The two teams met again in January where the Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 1170-976 evening the season series at one match each.
During the 2023-24 season the teams met eight times with both teams earning four wins throughout the season.
Joining N.C. A&T and La. Tech at the Rochester Regional are Marian and St. Vincent, who meet in a play-in match, before the winner moves on to face third-seeded Youngstown State.
The 2025 National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship consists of four regions all competing this weekend, April 3-5. The four regional winners will converge in Las Vegas, Nev. for the Final Four, April 11-12 at the Suncoast Bowling Center.
