RALEIGH, N.C., March 22, 2025 – North Carolina A&T State advances to the championship final with a 2-0 Mega Match win over second-seeded Maryland Eastern Shore. Thie victory marks the eighth consecutive appearance for the Aggies in the MEAC Bowling Championship match.
The 2025 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship match will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 23, at Buffaloe Lanes North in Raleigh, NC.
Day two action began with a pair of elimination games between No. 5 Delaware State and No. 7 Coppin State and No. 3 Morgan State against No. 4 Alabama - Birmingham.
The Hornets claimed the first spot in the consolation semifinals match after defeating the Eagles 2-1 in the Mega Match format. DSU started off winning the Traditional Game 842-757 led by Skylar Tenan who bowled a 204. CSU was led by Victoria Davis with a 171.
In the total pinfall baker game, Coppin State evened the match score after felling 845 pins while Delaware State dropped 821. With the team score tied at one-one, the teams went to the Best-of-Seven format. DSU won games one and two, (193-160, 172-162), while CSU won game three, 164-153. The Hornets won the next two games 174-153, 180-179 to claim a 4-1 victory and advance to the consolation semifinals.
The second elimination match of the morning between No. 3 Morgan State and No. 4 Alabama - Birmingham saw the Blazers pull off the win 2-0 ousting the Bears.
UAB won the traditional game by 12 pins, 857-845, as Madelynn Oliva led the Blazers with a 197 score. Cheyenne Washington led the Bears with a 187 total.
Alabama-Birmingham carried the momentum into the baker total matches winning by a 21-pin margin, 820-799, to secure their place in the consolation semifinals.
Moving into the afternoon session, the No. 1 Aggies of North Carolina A&T took on the No. 2 Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore in the champion's bracket.
N.C. A&T took the early 1-0 lead after defeating UMES 918-814 in the traditional round. Chloe Newberry and Laura Garcia posted 200+ point games with 217 and 210 pins respectively. Mariana Santos Rivero led the Hawks with 181 pins.
In the baker-five game total pinfall match, NC A&T got out to a hot start winning 231-191 in the first game. The Aggies won the next two games, 177-168 and 213-184, before UMES won game four 184-166. NC A&T closed out the baker games with a 181-159 win to advance to Sunday's championship match at 2:00 PM.
In the last elimination match of the day, it was a showdown between the No. 3 Hornets of Delaware State and the No. 4 Blazers of Alabama-Birmingham. The Blazers carried their momentum from the morning session into the afternoon round, winning the traditional game 990-959. Victoria Cobos led UAB with 225 pins while DSU was led by Jada Moore with a 267 score.
In the total pinfall round, after UAB won the first game 225-179, the remaining four games’ scores were nine-pins or less. Delaware State won the second game 180-171, before UAB strung together the next two games, 173-163 and 170-165. The Hornets won the fifth game, 180-171, but the Blazers held a 43-pin lead, 910-867, to claim the 2-0 win and advance to Sunday morning’s consolation finals.
The final day of the 2025 MEAC Bowling Championship will begin at 9:00 AM with the consolation final match between Maryland Eastern Shore and Alabama-Birmingham. The winner will advance to the championship match against NC A&T at 2:00 PM.
