GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Delaware State sophomore shortstop Trey Paige has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I East All-Region Second Team, as announced by the ABCA and Rawlings Wednesday morning.
A two-time MEAC Player of the Week and one-time Co-Player of the Week, Paige ended his regular season in historic fashion. He capped off the year as the first Hornet to sit atop the leaderboard in eight different hitting categories. The All-MEAC First Team shortstop also took home the league's "triple crown" title as three of the eight categories he led in were batting average (.412), home runs (13) and RBIs (43).
He became the first player in program history to obtain the league's triple crown. His league-leading slugging percentage of .791 has him sitting in seventh place in the country. Paige's batting average ranks him eighth in Division I in said category. He is also eighth in the nation in on-base percentage (.513). Paige went to tally an on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of 1.304. He collected 121 total bases off 60 hits, scored 46 runs and drilled 15 doubles.
Paige was the only player in the conference to record a batting average over .400 as well as the only batter to notch double-digit home runs this season.
The 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year becomes the fourth player under the reign of head coach JP Blandin to receive All-Region Honors.
As a team, Delaware State concluded the year with its best record (25-23, 19-14, MEAC) since the 2013 season, when the Hornets achieved a mark of (29-17, 16-7, MEAC).
