Coppin's Hamberg Receives All-America Accolades from NCBWA

DALLAS, Texas – Coppin State's Jordan Hamberg keeps on adding to his hardware collection, as it was announced on Wednesday afternoon that he received Third Team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Hamberg is the first Eagle to earn All-America accolades, receiving the honor as a utility player.
 
A sophomore from South Plainfield, N.J., Hamberg was one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year, the MEAC Pitcher of the Year and earned First Team All-MEAC honors at both utility and starting pitcher. Hamberg, who also earned ABCA Second Team All-Region accolades, led Coppin to its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance after the Eagles won their first MEAC championship since 1995.
 
After earning MEAC All-Tournament honors, Hamberg led Coppin in batting average (.347), OPS (1.074), home runs (8) and slugging percentage (.611) while adding ten doubles, a pair of triples, a .463 on-base percentage and 11 stolen bases. He also scored 34 runs and collected 50 base hits on the season.
 
Hamberg hit .390 in conference play and posted 13 multi-hit games, five games with at least three hits and nine multi-RBI games which included a 3-for-4 effort in a win at Navy where he finished a triple shy of the cycle with five RBI.
 
On the mound, Hamberg went 6-3 with a 5.15 ERA while striking out a school-record 87 batters in 64.2 innings of work. In conference games, Hamberg went 4-1 with a 3.43 ERA, punching out 55 batters in 42 innings.
 
Coppin finished the season with 24 victories, matching a school record, and played in the Greenville Regional, where it fell to No. 8 East Carolina before falling just short against 2016 national champion Coastal Carolina.
