Coppin's Hamberg Named John Olerud Player of the Week for Third Time

LUBBOCK, Texas – Coppin State's Jordan Hamberg was named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week, it was announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Tuesday evening.

This is the third time that Hamberg, a semifinalist for the Yearly Award, has received the weekly honor which leads all players across the country.
 
Hamberg was named to the All-Tournament Team as he led the Eagles to its first MEAC Tournament championship since 1995 over the weekend. A native of South Plainfield, N.J., Hamberg opened the tournament with a victory as he struck out nine batters over 6.0 innings in a win over third-seeded Maryland Eastern Shore. At the plate, Hamberg hit .333 with four runs, four RBIs, two doubles and walk while being hit by a pair of pitches.
 
Following the regular season, Hamberg was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Year while earning First Team honors at both starting pitcher and utility. Hamberg was the first Eagle to be named the conference's Pitcher of the Year.
 
Hamberg leads Coppin with a .355 average, eight home runs, a .630 slugging percentage and a 1.094 OPS while scoring 34 runs to go with ten doubles, two triples, 34 runs batted in, 22 walks and 11 stolen bases. On the mound, Hamberg went 6-2 with a 4.04 earned run average while striking out a school-record 86 batters over 62.1 innings. H

amberg's 12.42 strikeouts per nine innings rank 23rd in the nation this season.
 
Coppin State matched a school record with 24 wins and will make its first NCAA Regional Appearance in program history. After winning the 1995 MEAC championship, the Eagles took on Winthrop in the NCAA Play-In Game.
