GLEN BURNIE, Md. -- 
Coppin State scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat Maryland Eastern Shore 10-8 in the first game of a four-game series on Friday afternoon at Bachman Park.

The Eagles improved to 19-24 on the season and 15-10 in league play, increasing their lead atop the MEAC standings to two games.
 
After the Hawks scored five runs in the top of the eighth to take an 8-7 lead, Coppin erupted for four hits to retake the lead. Mike Dorcean got the rally started with a one-out single and scored to tie the score on a triple from Wellington Balsley.

Tyler Lloyd followed with a single to left to give Coppin back the lead and Jordan Hamberg drove him in with a double to right center to make it a two-run game.
 
Rashad Ruff struck out the side in the ninth on just 11 pitches to secure the win for the Eagles.

NORFOLK, Va. -- Peter Carreca tossed his first complete game and Miguel Rivera drove in a season-high four runs to lead visiting Delaware State to an 8-3 MEAC victory over Norfolk State in a nationally-televised (ESPNU) contest at Marty L. Miller Field on Friday.

Carrecca scattered three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out five with only one walk to post the Hornets' first nine-inning complete game since Cole Bates defeated Norfolk State 5-2 on April 1, 2021.   

Rivera was 3-for-4 with a triple, double and a season-high four runs batted in, one shy of his career best.

Trey Paige and Mike Worthington each had two hits and an RBI for the Hornets.
