NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State third baseman Tommy Woods recently received the honor of being named a recipient of the NCAA Ethnic Minority Graduate Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year.
Woods, who is in his first season playing third base for the Spartans, was one of the 26 chosen to receive the award. The NCAA awards $10,000 to 13 ethnic minorities and 13 female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of graduate studies.
Scholarship recipients must be full-time graduate students and enrolled in a sports-program to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship can be applied to any graduate school of the recipient's choice.
Woods, an interdisciplinary studies major with a focus in biology and chemistry, plans to enroll in graduate school for physical therapy and pursue a doctorate of physical therapy in the future. He has played and started in 30 games for the Spartans this year.
Woods previously attended Missouri State and John A. Logan College before transferring to Norfolk State.
