LUBBOCK, Texas -- Delaware State sophomore infielder Trey Paige has been named to the College Baseball Foundation's 2022 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List.
The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Paige, a two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week and the preseason pick for the league's Player of the Year currently stands as the league leader in batting average (.375), slugging percentage (.682) and home runs (6). He sits in a tie for first in total bases (60) and doubles (9).
The award rewards outstanding defensive play as much as it does production at the plate.
