NORFOLK, Va., April 11, 2022—Delaware State sophomore infielder Trey Paige was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State pitcher Justin Johnson was also named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State sophomore Jordan Hamberg earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Paige (6-0, So., INF, Reading, Pa.) batted .500 for the week, racking up eight hits in 16 at-bats over the course of five games, and six of those eight hits were for extra bases. For the week, Paige drove in five runs and scored six times, and he had three home runs and three doubles. Paige hit safely in all five games, including a 3-for-3 effort on Sunday against Maryland Eastern Shore, when he hit two home runs and a double. Paige also homered in a midweek game against Penn.
Johnson (6-1, Fr., P, Easton, Pa.) pitched a combined five innings of relief in two appearances this past week, giving up just one earned run and fanning nine total batters. He tossed two scoreless innings against Mount St. Mary’s, facing the minimum and striking out three. He then picked up a three-inning save against Norfolk State, striking out six in three innings of work, giving up just one hit.
Hamberg (6-0, So., P/OF, South Plainfield, N.J.) scattered five hits and fanned a career-high 13 batters, while only walking one, in a complete-game shutout win over Norfolk State on Sunday. At one point, he retired 10 batters in a row and closed out the game retiring 13 of the last 14 batters he faced. It was his second straight start with double-digit strikeouts, and it was the highest single-game strikeout total for a Coppin State pitcher since 2018.

Derrick Rabb (Maryland Eastern Shore) scattered four hits in a complete-game shutout of Delaware State, striking out 10.
Tanner Brandon (Norfolk State) had three two-hit games against Coppin State, driving in two runs each in the first and final games of the series.
Steven Shaffer (Norfolk State) was 3-for-6 with three RBIs in the series finale against Coppin State.
