NORFOLK, Va., March 28, 2022—Coppin State redshirt sophomore infielder Sebastien Sarabia and Maryland Eastern Shore senior infielder Marcus Brown were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State pitcher Marcos Herrand was also named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State redshirt junior James Deloatch and Maryland Eastern Shore graduate Derrick Rabb shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
Sarabia (5-11, So., INF/C, Simi Valley, Calif.) batted .462 (6-for-13) in a four-game split with Norfolk State, driving in a combined six runs and scoring twice. He hit safely in each game of the series, including back-to-back two-hit games on Saturday and Sunday. Sarabia drove in three on Friday and two more on Sunday, and he drew four walks for a .588 on-base percentage,
Brown (6-1, Sr., INF, Silver Spring, Md.) drove in eight runs in five games for the Hawks, while going a combined 6-for-18 (.333) at the plate. He started the week with two RBIs and a double against Navy on Tuesday, before driving in three in the opener against Delaware State and three more in the finale of that series. Brown hit safely in all five games for the week and had two doubles.
Herrand (5-11, Fr., P, Brandon, Fla.) tossed three scoreless innings of relief on Sunday to pick up his first career win against Norfolk State. He struck out a pair and didn’t give up a hit.
Deloatch (6-0, r-Jr., P, Norfolk, Va.) tossed 4.2 scoreless innings in game one on Saturday against Coppin State, striking out four and scattering five hits.
Rabb (6-0, Gr., P, Charlotte, N.C.) threw a seven-inning complete game on Saturday, leading the Hawks to an 11-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Delaware State. He struck out six and gave up just two runs on five hits in picking up his first win of the season.
