North Carolina A&T State Advances to Final of 2022 MEAC Bowling Championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 26, 2022
– North Carolina A&T State advanced to the championship final of the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship at Pinboy’s at the Beach on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
The top-seeded Aggies, the defending MEAC champion, will bowl for their seventh MEAC title at 2 p.m. against the winner of Sunday’s 9 a.m. elimination match between Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.
 
North Carolina A&T State was strong in the traditional round, taking a 1,089-923 win behind three 200-pin performances; First Team All-MEAC selection Lauren Tomaszewski led the way with a 247, while Chloe Newberry bowled a 234 and Laura Garcia added a 224.
 
MEAC Bowler of the Year Melanie Katen bowled a 194, with fellow First Team All-MEAC honoree Ericka Quesada chipping in a 190.
 
Brooke Roberts, herself a First Team All-MEAC honoree, led UMES with a 240.
 
The Aggies were even stronger in the Baker total pinfall round, eclipsing 200 pins in each of the five games en route to a 1,077-940 win. The match scores were 201-169, 211-213, 203-193, 238-206 and 224-159.
 
Delaware State bounced back from its morning setback to eliminate Monmouth. The Hornets opened with a 954-901 win in traditional play, thanks in large part to a 245 from Alyssa Breidegam, before dominating the Baker total pinfall portion.
 
Those scores were 211-186, 218-194, 208-184, 188-157 and 197-178.
 
Saturday morning saw Monmouth eliminate UAB in an epic, back-and-forth Mega Match – one in which the Blazers opened with a 923-904 win in the traditional round, thanks in large part to a 218 from Shauna Rodgers and a 205 from Jamie Krasnigor.
 
But the Hawks bounced back in taking the Baker total pinfall round 988-956 (168-172, 205-157, 211-204, 178-190, 233-226), then they carried that momentum to a 4-1 win in Baker best-of-seven (224-195, 195-215, 159-140, 244-198, 195-161).
 
Delaware State opened on Saturday morning with a 2-0 Mega Match win over Morgan State to eliminate the Bears. Three Hornets topped 200 pins in the traditional round – Stefanny Toala (225), Saralyne Nassberg (212) and Kelsey Cummings (211) – en route to a 993-909 win.
 
In the Baker total pinfall round, the Hornets won 1,062-925 (195-166, 234-154, 229-214, 187-201, 217-190).
 
Sunday’s championship match will broadcast on ESPNU via re-air on Sunday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m., leading into ESPN’s coverage of the NCAA women’s basketball championship game.
