Maryland Eastern Shore has won 10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships in women's bowling, the most in league history, but the Hawks have won even more prestigious hardware, several times over.
In 2008, the Hawks won their first NCAA championship in women's bowling, defeating Arkansas State 4-2. It was the first such championship for the MEAC, which was the first conference to secure NCAA sanctioning for women's bowling. UMES coach Sharon Brummell became the first female coach to win an NCAA bowling title, and both Brummell and bowler Jessica Worsley -- the NCAA Outstanding Performer that season -- have since been inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame.
Brummell was inducted in 2013, Worsley in 2019.
UMES made even more history in 2011, winning not just the NCAA bowling title but also taking the national championship in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championship. The Hawks became the first program to win both titles in the same season.
In all, UMES has five national championships in women's bowling, adding another NCAA crown in 2012 and a second USBC championship in 2013.
In all, the MEAC has seven national championships in women's bowling. North Carolina A&T State won the USBC national championship in 2015, and Delaware State's Katie Robb took the USBC Singles Championship crown in 2021, defeating the Aggies' Ana Olaya in the final.
