Second-seeded Delaware State advanced with a 2-0 win over Coppin State, winning the traditional format and the Baker total pinfall. The Hornets took the traditional portion 993-882, thanks in large part to a 234 from Kesley Cummings and a 222 from Alyssa Breidegam.

MEAC Rookie of the Year Sydney Reardon was one of two Delaware State bowlers (along with Emily Garl) to record a 188.

Jalyne Myers had Coppin State’s high game in the traditional round with a 211.

Coppin State opened Baker total pinfall with a clean first game, filling every frame en route to a 212-168 win. But the Hornets answered with scores of 205-148, 223-152, 184-157 and 208-158 to take the round 988-827 and win the match.

In Thursday’s other match, Howard took the traditional round of its match against Norfolk State. The ninth-seeded Bison won 826-738, and Aleyana DeBrest led the way with a 188, while Janae Bradford added a 175.

Megan Wheat led the eighth-seeded Spartans with a 179.

Norfolk State bounced back to take the Baker total pinfall portion, winning 850-725. The two teams tied 155-155 in the first game, before the Spartans won the next four games by scores of 170-134, 161-121, 169-164 and 195-151 to force the Baker best-of-seven round.

Howard then took the best-of-seven round 4-2, coming from behind in the 10th frame of the sixth game. Norfolk State appeared poised to force a seventh game, leading into the 10th frame, but Jahnai Phillips came through with three strikes in the final frame to help the Bison take the win.
