DENVER, Colo., March 1, 2022 - Today, CLMBR announces its partnership with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as a part of the brand's larger mission to provide communities with the tools needed to support individual health and wellbeing. As a part of the partnership, CLMBR will provide all eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the MEAC with a CLMBR Connected machine.
CLMBR's innovative modality will be integrated into the athletic programs for all eight HBCUs in the MEAC: Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University.
CLMBR Co-Founder and CEO Avrum Elmakis grew up in Newport News, Va., and his mother, Gail, received her master's in social work at Norfolk State University. The Mid-Atlantic region welcomed the Elmakis family with open arms. So for Elmakis, this is about giving back to a region that gave his family, originally from South Africa, a new beginning. This is about showing appreciation to an HBCU school system that gave his mother a chance to pursue her dreams.
"There were opportunities to partner CLMBR with any higher learning institution due to it being a new technology, it's exciting, it's cool and it's fun. Working with the MEAC was the most impactful and organic opportunity. Especially in a place that's home to me," Elmakis said.
Elmakis’ goal is to develop a strong organic tie that will extend beyond athletics and potentially help aspiring students in various academic focuses grow. Therefore, as an extension of this partnership, Elmakis will also provide leadership and entrepreneurship advice to students and student-athletes at the MEAC’s upcoming Student Leadership Symposium.
"The contribution helps to bridge that financial gap by providing our institutions with fitness technology that they would not have without CLMBR’s generous donation," MEAC Commissioner Sonja O. Stills said. "Contributions like these allow our institutions to focus on other much-needed items, while still providing opportunities for our student-athletes to train at the highest level."
