NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior standout Danny Hosley was named Tuesday as one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced.
The Olerud has been given since 2010 to the top player in Division I who pitches in addition to playing another position. It is named in honor of the former Washington State and MLB all-star, John Olerud.
Hosley has excelled on the mound, at the plate and in the field for the Spartans this season. The 2021 MEAC Player of the Year, Hosley has posted a 7-1 record and 2.95 ERA in 11 appearances, including 10 starts. He has thrown six complete games and struck out 79 hitters in 73.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .206 batting average.
At the plate, Hosley leads the MEAC with a .375 batting average, including eight doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBIs and nine steals. When he's not pitching, Hosley has seen time on the left side of the Norfolk State infield, committing just four errors while fielding .971 at either shortstop or third base. He was a four-time MEAC Pitcher of the Week, two-time MEAC Player of the Week, and was a MEAC All-Tournament Team selection already this season while helping NSU capture its first-ever MEAC baseball title.
Other finalists for the award include Garrett Delano of Mercer, Dylan Nedved of Iowa, Spencer Schwellenbach of Nebraska and Justin Campbell of Oklahoma State. The award will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this summer.
