WYOMING, Mich. – North Carolina A&T State finished runner-up at the Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) to finish the 2020-21 bowling season on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Ana Olaya entered the individual bracket as the No. 12 seed and won twice to reach the semifinals. Olaya started Saturday with a 204-189 win over No. 8 Maryssa Carey of Indiana Tech in the semifinals but fell to No. 3 Katie Robb of Delaware State 186-166 in the championship match.
"It was challenging conditions," head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney said. "Ana bowled great and kept herself in matches. She fell a little short. But being second in the country in the singles event is a great way to end her collegiate career. She's pleased, and it was a great run. She had an amazing week. I'm not sure that I've seen her bowl better."
In the ITC, the Aggies came up short in the championship as Wichita State defeated N.C. A&T 4-3 in the finals.
"It came down to the last frame," Terrell-Kearney said. "Their girl had to double in the 10th frame to shut us out; otherwise, Cameron (Strombeck) could have forced a tie."
N.C. A&T entered the bracket play as the 12th seed and won all four games, including defeating No. 3 McKendree twice.
"That's the best that we've ever bowled," Terrell-Kearney said. "We couldn't be more pleased with the fact that we peaked at the right time here.
They gave all their heart, and that's what we hope for. You show up in the postseason with your best stuff, and I feel like we did."
