MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., May 3, 2021Coppin State redshirt freshman Mike Dorcean was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Sebastien Sarabia was named Rookie of the Week, while Florida A&M junior Kelyn Fox and North Carolina Central redshirt sophomore Ryan Miller shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Dorcean (r-Fr., C, Bellerose, N.Y.) went 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate in the Delaware State series this past weekend, scoring six times and driving in seven runs. He had a double and a home run over the weekend, while also drawing six walks for a .778 on-base percentage. He had two hits each in all four games of the series, and he drove in three runs on two separate occasions against the Hornets – including Sunday’s win, where he went 2-for-4 with a home run and two walks.
 
Sarabia (Fr., C, Simi Valley, Calif.) was 10-for-18 at the plate (.556) in five games this past week, and in a 12-10 midweek win over Navy, he tied the Coppin State program record for hits in a single game with five. He had a double, three runs scored and three RBIs in that game, and he went 3-for-4 in the series opener against Delaware State. For the week, Sarabia scored six times, drove in seven runs and hit three doubles.
 
Fox (Jr., LHP, Bartow, Fla.) threw eight innings of one-run ball against Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon to clinch the series, scattering seven hits and striking out eight in picking up his sixth win of the season.
 
Miller (r-So., RHP, Blandon, Pa.) nearly threw the first no-hitter in North Carolina Central modern program history, giving up just one hit and one run in six innings of work in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against North Carolina A&T State. He struck out eight in picking up his eighth win of the season.
 
Other Top Performers
Mark Herron (Delaware State) hit three home runs in the Coppin State series, including two in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader – a game in which he drove in six runs.
 
Octavien Moyer (Florida A&M) had three two-hit games this past week and drove in a pair in the series finale against Norfolk State.
 
JD Tease (Florida A&M) was 2-for-6 in the series against Norfolk State.
 
James Deloatch (Norfolk State) was strong on ESPNU on Friday, giving up just one run and striking out three in eight innings against Florida A&M.
 
Ty Hanchey (Norfolk State) hit a home run on Friday against Florida A&M and drove in four runs in the weekend series.
 
Cole Parks (North Carolina A&T State) tossed seven innings on two-hit ball against North Carolina Central, striking out six.
 
Ryne Stanley (North Carolina A&T State) homered in the series opener against North Carolina Central and had six RBIs in the four-game series.
 
Kokko Figueiredo (North Carolina Central) drove in two runs and scored twice in an 11-2 win in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against North Carolina A&T State.
 
Chet Sikes (North Carolina Central) had back-to-back two-hit games against North Carolina A&T State.
