NORFOLK, Va., May 10, 2021—
North Carolina Central redshirt senior Kokko Figueiredo and
Norfolk State senior Danny Hosley were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Coppin State’s Darren Hagan was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State junior Ethan Chavis earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Figueiredo (r-Sr., INF, Fortuna, Calif.) hit three home runs in the Eagles’ four-game sweep of Florida A&M this past weekend to clinch the Southern Division’s top seed in this week’s MEAC Baseball Championship. He hit .500 (7-for-14) for the week and slugged 1.143. He was 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday’s first game, and on Saturday, he went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Hosley (Sr., UTL, Vienna, Va.) notched a career-high four hits – including a three-run double – and had four RBIs in Sunday’s come-from-behind win over Delaware State to give the Spartans the series. For the weekend, Hosley was 6-for-9 (.667) at the plate, scoring three times and racking up five total RBIs. He also went 2-for-2 in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, scoring twice and driving in a run.
Hagan (Fr., OF, Chichester, Pa.) went 2-for-5 at the plate in Saturday’s finale against North Carolina A&T State, and for the series, he had four hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Chavis (Jr., LHP, Pembroke, N.C.) tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout on Friday against Coppin State, his second straight complete game. He struck out a season-high nine batters in earning his second win of the season.

Mike Dorcean (Coppin State) had a pair of two-hit games against North Carolina A&T State, driving in a pair of runs in the opener on Thursday.
Jordan Haddaway (Delaware State) tossed a complete game against Norfolk State, scattering four hits and giving up just one run.
Trey Paige (Delaware State) had a home run, a triple and a double in the four-game series against Norfolk State, and went 3-for-4 with two extra-base hits on Saturday.
James Deloatch (Norfolk State) struck out five and scattered six hits in six shutout innings against Delaware State.
Justin Williams (North Carolina A&T State) went 3-for-3 in Friday’s first game, an 8-0 win over Coppin State, with a double – while also hitting a home run and scoring seven times over the weekend.
Austin Vernon (North Carolina Central) struck out 13 batters against Florida A&M to set the program single-season strikeout record.
