Bracket
NORFOLK, Va., May 17, 2021 – Norfolk State will host the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship on Thursday, May 20 through Saturday, May 22 at Marty L. Miller Field. The host Spartans and the Eagles of North Carolina Central will enter tournament play as the No. 1 seeds from their respective divisions.
Only the top two teams from each division will compete in the double-elimination tournament, which features a chance to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
North Carolina Central (25-18, 17-11 MEAC) swept a four-game series with Florida A&M this past weekend to claim the Southern Division’s top seed, and the Eagles come into the championship with the best overall record in the league. NCCU, which is seeking its first MEAC title, has won five in a row and nine of its last 11 games.
Norfolk State (22-26, 18-10 MEAC) comes into the championship having wrapped up the division crown for the fifth time in six seasons and is in search of its first tournament title. The Spartans won three of four games over Delaware State this past weekend to wrap up the regular season.
Florida A&M (19-32, 15-13 MEAC) earns the Southern Division’s No. 2 seed over North Carolina A&T State by virtue of conference winning percentage (.536 to .531). The Rattlers are the defending conference champion, having emerged from the elimination bracket in 2019, defeating Norfolk State twice to win the crown.
Delaware State (15-26, 13-18 MEAC) will be the Northern Division’s No. 2 seed and make its second straight MEAC Baseball Championship appearance after also qualifying in 2019. The Hornets will be in search of their second MEAC baseball title; they last won the conference in 1989.
The 2021 MEAC Baseball Championship begins Thursday, May 20 at 12 p.m., when North Carolina Central will battle Delaware State, while Norfolk State and Florida A&M face each other at 3:30 p.m. to close out the opening day of play.
The winner of the North Carolina Central/Delaware State game will face the winner of the Norfolk State/Florida A&M game on Friday, May 21 at 12 p.m. The elimination round begins Friday at 3:30 p.m. pitting the teams that lost Thursday’s games against each other, followed by a final losers’ bracket game at 7 p.m.
The winner of the 12 p.m. contest will advance Saturday’s championship game, while the loser will play in the elimination game on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The winner of the 7 p.m. elimination game will advance to the championship game.
The championship game is set for Saturday, May 22, beginning at 12 p.m., and will be broadcast live on FloBasetball, with the team from the winners’ bracket needing only one win to claim the championship trophy. If the team that comes out of the losers’ bracket wins the first game on Saturday, a second game will be played at a time to be determined.
Based on COVID-19 protocols that went into place this past Saturday, Marty L. Miller Field can allow a 50 percent capacity for the 2021 MEAC Baseball Championship. Fans can purchase tickets
