DURHAM, N.C. – Forty-three student-athletes were among the Eagles to earn their degrees on Saturday, May 8, during North Carolina Central's 137th commencement exercises at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
Two NCCU student-athletes, Maru Berghaus of women's tennis and Hollan Strepay of men's golf and track & field, were honored as Class of 2021 valedictorians, each achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
"The 2021 graduating class represents not only a great group of people, but also group of student-athletes that endured more than a year of adjustments to their academic and athletic experience," Kwadjo Steele, NCCU Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Support Services, said. "They will be remembered for their resilience, grace, and commitment to their education under unprecedented circumstances. We are grateful they trusted us with their journey."
