NORFOLK, Va., April 5, 2021—
Norfolk State senior Alsander Womack was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Norfolk State’s Dalton Barham was named Rookie of the Week, while
Norfolk State senior Danny Hosley and
Delaware State junior Jordan Haddaway shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
Womack (Sr., 2B, Waxhaw, N.C.) hit safely in all five games for the Spartans this past week, including three multi-hit efforts. He hit .450 for the week (9-for-20) and went 7-for-15 (.467) in the four-game series against Delaware State – including a 3-for-5 game in Thursday’s opener. In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, Womack scored three times and drove in a run, and for the week, he had three RBIs and six runs scored. In a midweek game against Richmond, Womack went yard and scored twice.
Barham (r-Fr., LHP, Norfolk, Va.) picked up his first collegiate win on the mound on Friday in helping the Spartans sweep a doubleheader against Delaware State. In five innings of work, Barham scattered seven hits and gave up just two runs, while recording a strikeout.
Hosley (Sr., UTL/RHP, Vienna, Va.) notched his fourth consecutive complete game on Saturday in a pitchers’ duel against Delaware State, going the full nine innings and striking out a career-high 10 batters. He scattered five hits and gave up just two runs (both unearned).
Haddaway (Jr., RHP, Delmar, Del.) was the winning pitcher in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Norfolk State, scattering seven hits and giving up just one run in 8.1 innings of work. He struck out four and retired the side three times on the afternoon.
Other Top Performers
Brady Daniels (Delaware State) went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the series opener against Norfolk State.
John Weglarz (Delaware State) was 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate in the Norfolk State series, including a 3-for-4 effort with two RBIs in the series opener.
Ryne Stanley (North Carolina A&T State) was .500 for the weekend against Baylor, making three starts behind the plate and going 3-for-3 in catching runners stealing.
