MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 19, 2021North Carolina A&T State junior Justin Williams was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State’s Dalton Barham was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State senior Danny Hosley and North Carolina Central sophomore Ryan Miller shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Williams (Jr., INF, Charlotte, N.C.) was a combined 10-for-20 (.500) at the plate in five games this past week for the Aggies, and he had seven RBIs and five runs scored in a four-game series win over Florida A&M. He had three multi-hit games in the series, including a 3-for-4 effort with six RBIs and a home run in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
 
Barham (r-Fr., LHP, Norfolk, Va.) pitched his first career complete game and struck out a career-high 10 batters against Coppin State, allowing just four hits and one earned run in picking up his second win of the season.
 
Hosley (Sr., UTL/RHP, Vienna, Va.) notched 10 strikeouts for the third straight game, giving up just six hits and one earned run in eight innings of work against Coppin State in picking up his fifth win of the season and complete the four-game sweep of the Eagles.
 
Miller (r-So., RHP, Blandon, Pa.) tossed eight shutout innings against Delaware State, scattering six hits and striking out six on Sunday to pick up his sixth win of the season. His effort helped the Eagles record their first nine-inning shutout since 2017.
 
Other Top Performers
Jordan Hamberg (Coppin State) was 4-for-4 with two runs scored in the series finale against Norfolk State, including a double and a triple.
 
Cole Bates (Delaware State) scattered eight hits and three runs (one earned) in eight innings against North Carolina Central, striking out a career-high 10 batters.
 
Trey Paige (Delaware State) drove in four runs and scored four times in a four-game series split with North Carolina Central, hitting three doubles and a home run
 
Evan Gates (North Carolina A&T State) struck out seven in five combined innings of work over two appearances, giving up just two hits and one run.
 
Luis DeLeon (North Carolina Central) had three extra-base hits in a four-game series split against Delaware State, recording a hit in each game of the series.
 
Chet Sikes (North Carolina Central) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Sunday’s 6-0 win over Delaware State.
