NORFOLK, Va., April 12, 2021North Carolina Central redshirt senior Kokko Figueiredo and Delaware State senior Cole Garey were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Sebastien Sarabia was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State senior Danny Hosley and Delaware State senior Chandler Fitzgerald shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Figueiredo (r-Sr., INF, Fortuna, Calif.) led the Eagles at the plate this past week, going a combined 8-for-18 (.444), scoring five times and racking up four RBIs. He had two multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 effort in the series opener against North Carolina A&T State, hitting the first of two home runs on the week. He also had a double against the Aggies, and his second home run came in Sunday’s series finale. Figueiredo drove in a run in four of the Eagles’ five games.
 
Garey (Sr., DH/1B, Felton, Del.) went 6-for-11 (.545) this past weekend in leading the Hornets to a three-game sweep of Coppin State, scoring once and driving in three runs. He had two hits in each game of the series, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, and he had a pair of doubles. Garey was 2-for-3 in the first game of the series, hitting one of his doubles and driving in a pair.
 
Sarabia (Fr., C/1B, Simi Valley, Calif.) hit .615 (8-for-13) in four games for the Eagles, driving in four and scoring twice. He had three multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 effort in the series finale against Delaware State. He had two RBIs in the second game of that series, and Sarabia opened the week with a pair of hits and three walks, a run scored and an RBI against La Salle.
 
Hosley (Sr., UTL/RHP, Vienna, Va.) pitched his NCAA-leading fifth complete game – which was also his fifth in a row – in Sunday’s Game 1 win over Florida A&M. In seven innings of work, Hosley tied his career high with 10 strikeouts, while also scattering three hits and giving up just one earned run.
 
Fitzgerald (Sr., RHP, Middletown, Del.) picked up his third and fourth saves of the season against Coppin State, not giving up a hit or a run in 1.2 innings of work for the weekend. He had a strikeout in his second appearance and between his two stints on the mound, Fitzgerald only allowed one base runner.
 
Other Top Performers
Tyler Nichol (Coppin State) struck out six in five innings of work against Delaware State.
 
Ryan Rigby (Delaware State) pitched four innings of shutout relief against Coppin State, striking out six.
 
Jacob Council (Norfolk State) hit his first home run as a Spartan against Florida A&M, and he was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the series finale.
 
Camden Williamson (North Carolina A&T State) hit two home runs against North Carolina Central, driving in five runs in a four-game series split.
 
Peyton Winebarger (North Carolina A&T State) pitched 4.1 innings in two appearances, striking out four and picking up the win in Game 2 on Sunday.
 
Chet Sikes (North Carolina Central) went 3-for-4 in Sunday’s first game against the Aggies with a double and an RBI.
