NORFOLK, Va., March 29, 2021Norfolk State senior Danny Hosley and Florida A&M junior LJ Bryant were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Tyler Nichol was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State junior James DeLoatch and Florida A&M sophomore Zach Morea shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
Hosley (6-1, Sr., UTL, Vienna, Va.) was strong both at the plate and on the mound in the Spartans’ series win over Coppin State. He went 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate, driving in four runs and hitting two triples in three games. He was 3-for-4 in the first game of the series, and on Sunday, Hosley added his third straight complete game, striking out six and allowing just four hits.
 
Bryant (6-1, Jr., OF, Leesburg, Ga.) was 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate with six RBIs and six runs scored in the Rattlers’ four-game sweep of North Carolina A&T State. He had a home run and a double in the series, and he drew five walks over the course of the four games. He was 3-for-4 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, and on Sunday, Bryant was 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two extra-base hits.
 
Nichol (5-9, Fr., RHP, Belle Chasse, La.) tossed 3.2 innings of one-hit ball against Norfolk State in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, striking out six.
 
DeLoatch (6-0, Jr., LHP, Norfolk, Va.) tossed his first career complete game against Coppin State on Friday, scattering five hits and striking out a career-high nine batters while giving up just one run.
 
Morea (6-2, So., RHP, Tallahassee, Fla.) made three relief appearances against the Aggies, earning two wins after scattering six hits, not allowing a run, and striking out a pair.
 
Other Top Performers
Conner Walker (Coppin State) had four RBIs in the Eagles’ series-opening win over Norfolk State.
 
Justin Williams (North Carolina A&T State) went 3-for-4 with a home run on Saturday against Florida A&M.
