North Carolina A&T State advanced to the championship match of the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship on Saturday at Bowlero Chesapeake with a pair of resounding victories.

Saturday’s matches were in Mega Match format, a best-two-out-of-three layout involving a traditional pinfall game, a Baker total pinfall game and, if necessary, a Baker best-of-seven game.

The top-seeded Aggies, No. 4 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, opened the day with a 2-0 win over UAB. NCAT won the traditional game 916-740, highlighted by a 214 from Lauren Tomaszewski and a 200 from Melanie Katen, before taking the Baker pinfall match 1,030-785.

NCAT then won its afternoon match 2-0 over Monmouth. Katen rolled a 232 in traditional play and Tomaszewski added a 218, while Ericka Quesada bowled a 211 to help the Aggies win that portion 1,012-975.

The Baker pinfall set was tighter, but NCAT prevailed there as well, winning 874-857.

No. 3 seed Monmouth defeated Delaware State 2-0 in the Hawks’ first match of the day, winning the traditional game 937-894 and the Baker pinfall format 1,005-992. In the traditional game, Skylar Smith bowled a 228 and Jamie Phelan rolled a 208.

The Hornets, the No. 2 seed, rebounded, defeating UAB in the afternoon session to eliminate the Blazers. Alyssa Breidegam, the MEAC Rookie of the Year, led Delaware State in traditional play with a 213, while Emily Garl rolled a 200 and Kaitlyn Robb added a 193.

Delaware State then won the Baker pinfall game 938-865.

The Hornets will face the Hawks again Sunday morning at 8 a.m. to see which team advances to the championship match against North Carolina A&T State. Sunday morning’s affair will be a Mega Match.

Sunday’s championship finale will be a best-of-seven Baker. The match will be shown via rebroadcast on ESPNU on Sunday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
