NORFOLK, Va., March 16, 2021 –
North Carolina A&T State senior Cameron Strombeck was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Year, presented by TowneBank, the conference has announced.
Delaware State’s Alyssa Breidegam was named Rookie of the Year, and
North Carolina A&T State’s Kim Terrell-Kearney earned Coach of the Year honors.
All awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Strombeck was averaging 213.8 pins in traditional action heading into this past weekend, and her season-best 268 came against UAB in conference play on Feb. 20. She eclipsed the 20-pin mark 16 times heading into this past weekend, and she boasted a 48.0% strike rate along with a 72.3% spare rate. Strombeck, the Preseason MEAC Bowler of the Year, was a two-time MEAC Bowler of the Week this season.
Breidegam led Delaware State this season with a 201.6 pinfall average in traditional play, and she bowled a season-best 237 in the MEAC meet on Feb. 19-21. She averaged 200 or better in three tournaments this season including a season-best 208.4 in the MEAC meet. The MEAC Bowler of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Feb. 2, Breidegam is one of just three MEAC bowlers to average over 200 pins on the season.
Terrell-Kearney led the Aggies to their highest national ranking in program history, No. 4 in the March 2021 National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. NCAT won the MEAC meet on Feb. 19-21, going 7-1 in league play, and the Aggies are the top seed in this weekend’s MEAC Bowling Championship. The Aggies have won five tournaments this season, including this past weekend’s Vern Stallings Invitational, and have finished no worse than third.
Joining Strombeck and Breidegam on the All-MEAC First Team are Delaware State’s Stefanny Toala and North Carolina A&T State’s Melanie Katen and Ericka Quesada.
The 2021 MEAC Bowling Championship is currently set for Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21 at the Bowlero Chesapeake (formerly AMF Lanes) in Chesapeake, Va.
