MEAC Set to Host 2021 Bowling Championship

2021 MEAC Bowling Championship Bracket | Championship Central

NORFOLK, Va., March 15, 2021—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2021 MEAC Bowling Championship this Saturday and Sunday, March 20-21, at the Bowlero Chesapeake (formerly AMF Chesapeake Lanes) in Chesapeake, Va.

Delaware State, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T State and UAB each advanced to this year’s tournament, with qualification determined by results from the regular-season conference meet back on Feb. 19-21. The Aggies, at 7-1 in league play this season, will be the No. 1 seed, followed by Delaware State (5-3), Monmouth (4-4) and UAB (3-5).

Morgan State and Norfolk State were unable to compete in the conference meet last month. Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore (which won the last MEAC bowling tournament title in 2019) have not competed this season.

All four teams competing this weekend are ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 poll for March 2021, led by North Carolina A&T State at No. 4 (the highest ranking in program history). Delaware State is ranked No. 12, followed by Monmouth at No. 19 and UAB at No. 21.

The double-elimination tournament begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. with a pair of Mega Matches (a best-of-three format with a five-person team match followed by Baker total pinfall and then Baker best-of-seven) – pitting No. 1 North Carolina A&T State against No. 4 UAB, with the other matchup being No. 2 Delaware State against No. 3 Monmouth.

Saturday will conclude at 3 p.m. with the winners of those two matches facing off in the top bracket, while the losers from the morning matches will face each other in the elimination bracket.

Saturday’s winner from the top bracket will advance to Sunday’s championship final. The winner from the bottom bracket Saturday afternoon will compete on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Saturday afternoon’s losing team from the top bracket.

The winner of that match will advance to the championship match at 12 p.m. The championship final will rebroadcast on ESPNU at a date and time to be determined.

Due to COVID protocols, the 2021 MEAC Bowling Championship will be closed to the public. Fans are encouraged to follow along on the championship page here.
